Human Excretory system
Explanation:
In human beings, The filtration of nitrogenous waste and excess water and their removal is carried out by a group of organs which are collectively known as the excretory system.
The major components of the human excretory system are listed below
- Kidneys - There are two bean shaped kidneys located in the abdomen near the spine. These kidneys are responsible for the removal of unwanted substances from the blood.
Their are millions of functional units in each kidney. These are known as nephrons or uriniferous tubules. The blood enters these nephrons through small capillaries and is filtered out to form urine.
- Ureters - These are tubes that emerge from each kidney and carry the urine to the urinary bladder.
- Urinary bladder- it is a distend-able bag which collects the urine formed in the kidney and stores it for urination.
- Urethra- It is a thin tube that emerges from the lower end of the bladder and carries the urine out of the body.
The junction between the urinary bladder and urethra is guarded by a sphincter which relaxes when the bladder is full.
