First of all, what are ruminating animals?
- Ruminating animals are those herbivorous animals who you possess compartments of stomach.
Food passes in various parts of the digestive tract of ruminating animals as follows:
- Rumen: Microbes present in this compartment ferment the dietary substances in to volatile fatty acids, which constitutes the main energy supplying component for ruminants.
- Reticulum: This compartment is present in association with the rumen.
- Omasum: This compartment absorbs water and other nutrients from the simplified dietary components.
- Abomasum: This compartment contains glands , similar to a non-ruminant stomach and hence secretes DIGESTIVE JUICES.
Hope It Helps
