Binary fission means splitting into two.
It is a type of fission in which parent cell splits into two equal halves at maturity to give rise to two identical daughter cells .
The unicellular organisms like Amoeba, Paramecium etc. and bacteria reproduce by binary fission which occurs in definite orientation. It takes place when environmental conditions are favorable.

During this process , karyokinesis occurs first followed by cytokinesis . At maturity , nucleus of cell elongates and then divide into two equal halves. This is called karyokinesis.

It is followed by the division of cytoplasm onto two parts around each nucleus . This is called cytokinesis. As a result two daughter individuals are formed which grow into adult organisms.
