The series of kinds of organisms through which food energy moves is called a food chain.

Explanation:

1.The energy transfer from producers through a series of other organisms (herbivores, carnivores, decomposers) with repeated eating and being eaten is known to make a food chain.

2. Food chain describes linear series of species, generally involving plant (autotrophs), herbivores and one or two successive set of predators (a predator chain) or alternatively, the series of parasites and hyperparasites exploiting a host, saprophytic chain exploiding dead tissue are known to be most important.

3. The producer-consumer arrangement is one kind of structure known as trophic structure (trophic=food) and each food level in the food chain is called trophic level. The first trophic level in forest ecosystem is occupied by the plant-producers(green plant-primary producers), because they utilize solar energy which is transformed to chemical form during photosynthesis.

4.The energy stored in food or green plants is consumed by the plant eaters (herbivores) which make the second trophic level.

5. Herbivores are also called primary consumers. Primary consumers in turn are eaten by carnivores (are also known as secondary consumers) which occupy third trophic level.

6. Secondary consumers (Primary carnivores) may be eaten by other carnivores (secondary or top carnivores) which are known as tertiary consumers and occupy fourth tropic level.

7. Decomposers occupy fifth trophic level in forest ecosystem.
