Nervous tissue contains highly specialised unit cells called Nerve cells or neurons.
The function of neurone is to receive stimuli from within or outside the body and to send signals to different parts of the body. The signals travels from one neuron to another neuron.
Each neuron has three parts:
Cell body (cyton)
Dendrons
Axon
The cell body contains a central nucleus and cytoplasm.
The dendrons are short processes arising from the cell body & further branching into dendrites.
The axon is a single long cylindrical process of uniform diameter . its forms fine branches terminally.
Axon is also called nerve fibre.
The dendrites receive impulses(signals) and the axon takes impulses(signals) away from the cell body.
