Prism is a transparent medium separated by the surrounding medium by 2 retracting surfaces such that tose 2 refracting surfaces are parallel to each other.

Condering a prism LMN such that LM and LN are its refracting surfaces. A ray of light AB is incident on the face LM at an angle of Incidence 'i' the ray is shown by BC . The ray strikes the other refracting surface LN goes away from the normal and becomes emergent ray is shown as CD.

'A' is the angle of prism. 'i' is the angle of incidence and 'e' is the angle of emergence.
