- The female reproductive system consists of the primary reproductive glands of the gonads which are ovary.
- These ovaries at 2 in number situated laterally in the abdominal cavity.
- From the ovaries two fallopian tubes originate which are not actually attached but they cover the ovaries with their finger like projections and this fallopian tubes join with the uterus on their lateral sides.
- The uterus is a thick muscular structure having three layers namely perimetrium myometrium and endometrium.
- From the uterus the lower part constricts to form the cervix which then continues to form the vagina which opens exterior to the body.
- Egg that is produced is secreted into the fallopian tube which is then sweeped by the cilia of the fallopian tube into the uterus which if gets fertilized gets implanted into the uterus forming the zygote. If the egg is not fertilized then it is lost during the menses of the menstrual cycle.
