The eggs laid by the female silk moth ios collected and hatched in an incubator. They are kept under hygenic conditions with optimum temperature and humidity. After they hatch, the worms are kept in the rearing trays with freshly chopped mulberry leaves. Then they are provided with twigs to spin cocoons. After this stage, the caterpillar is killed by the process of cooking. Then the reeling process is carried out to obtain the silk fibre.
Workers of the wool industry suffer fron a fatal blood disease called Sorter's disease caused by the bacteria anthrax, during the sorting process. Workers of the sericulture industry get affected by asthama and bronchitis due to the inhalation of vapours during cooking steaming and reeling processes.
