Given : a line m.

To Find : Draw a perpendicular to m at any point on m.On this perpendicular choose a point X, 4cm away from m. Draw a line n parallel to m through X.

Solution:

Step 1 : Draw a line , Label it m

Step 2 : Take any point  B  on line m

Step 3 : Using some compass width draw a semicircle intersecting line m at C & D

Step 4 : taking Compass width slightly more , draw arcs taking C as center

Step 5 : keeping compass width same , draw arcs taking D as center such that it intersects arc drawn in previous step   at  E

Step 5 : draw a ray from B passing through E

BE ⊥ line m

Step 6 : taking compass width = 4 cm and taking B as center , cut Ray BE at X

Step 7 : taking compass width = BC or BD , draw a arc intersecting Ray BE at F & G

Step 8 : Taking compass width = EC or ED  and taking F or G as center , draw arc intersecting arc drawn in previous step at H

Step 9 : draw a line passing through X & H and Label it n

n ║ m
