Construction of parallel line to a given line:

  • Draw a line segment AB = 5.5 cm.
  • Mark a point P below this line.
  • Mark another point Q on AB.
  • Join P and Q.
  • Draw an arc from Q touching both lines.
  • Using the same compass width, draw an arc from P.
  • Now, set the compass width to the arc drawn from Q.
  • Using the same width, mark an arc on lower arc drawn from P.
  • Let the point of intersection be R.
  • Draw a line passing through P and R.
  • This is the required line.
