Using a ruler and compass a line through the outside point P parallel to AB = 6.8 cm is drawn in the attachment below.

Concept :

First of all, we have to draw a line segment AB = 6. 8 cm and take point P outside the line segment AB, and by using a ruler and compass, we draw a line through P parallel to AB.

Steps of construction :

(1) Draw a line segment AB = 6.8 cm using the ruler and take a point P outside a line segment AB.

(2) Now take any point Q on AB and join P to Q.

(3) Take Q as a center and with any radius, draw an arc cutting AB at X and PQ at Y.

(4) Take P as a center and with the same radius taken in step 3 draw an arc CD cutting PQ at Z.

(5) Take the same arc XY, draw an equal arc with center Z cutting n arc CD at E.

(6) Now join PE and extend both sides to draw a line l.

Hence, the required parallel line 'l' is parallel to line segment AB.
