first draw AB of given length
take distance AP of given length
then take and keep the pointed compass on P and cut the line AB
now keep on one point take more than half distance of the two points
draw arcs keeping same distance
and now join its intersection

Step-by-step explanation:

Draw a line segment AB = 8 cm.

Mark a point P in AB such that AP = 5 cm.

With centre P and some suitable radius, draw an arc meeting AB in L.

With centre L and same radius cut arc LM.

Bisect arc LM at N.

Join PN and produce it to Q.

Then ∠APQ = 30°
