Steps of Construction of a line segment AB :

(i) On taking A as centre and radius more than ½ of AB construct the arcs on both sides of AB.

(ii) On taking B as centre and of same radius, construct the arcs which cuts the previous arcs at the points P and Q.

(iii) Now join P with Q.  line PQ intersects AB at the point C.

(iv) On taking A as centre and radius more than ½ of AC construct the arcs on both sides of AC.

(v)On taking C as centre and of same radius , construct the arcs which cuts the previous arcs at the points R and S.

(vi) Now join R with S .  the line RS intersects AB at the point D.

Here, AC = CB = 1/2 × AB

On dividing AC at D

AD = DC are of equal length.

Hence, AD = DC = ½ AC =  1/4 × AB
