follow the steps:
take your scale and draw a line of 9cm (that's easy)
after that take your compass and spread it to measure of more than half of that line. In this case take your compass with a measure of 5 cm.
now take your pointed part and keep it on the left end of the line and draw an arc above and below the line. Do the same keeping the pointed part on the right end. then the two arcs intersect. the points of intersection that are formed above and below the line, just join them.
