Solution:

Steps of construction

1. Draw a line segment XY of length 8.5 cm.

2. With the help of compass, from point X , mark arc on segment X Y at a distance of 4.8 cm, such that X Z= 4.8 cm.

3. With the help of divider, measure the length of Y Z. You will find Y Z= 3.7 cm.

As, X,Y and Z are Collinear.

XY= 8.5 cm

XZ= 4.8 cm

YZ= 3.7 cm

→ X Z +Y Z

= 4.8 +3.7

= 8.5 cm

= X Y

Hence proved.

Answer:

Draw a line segment XZ to length 8.5cm

with help the compass from point X mark arc on segment XZ at a distance of 4.8 cm such that XZ=4.8

with subtract AB and XZ =8.5 -4. 8 =3.7

ZY =3.7

with add XZ+ZY =4.8+3.7=8.5
