Refer to the image attached below and the instructions to find out how to draw a perpendicular line.

  • Using a ruler draw a line segment PQ such that it is 7cm.
  • After that mark out a point on the line R and measure it so that PR is 3.9cm.
  • Using a compass, place the point on R and draw two points on the line and mark them as A and B.
  • Move your pointer to A and adjust it to be a little bit more than half of AB.
  • Make a marking on the top of point R outside the line.
  • Repeat the same process for point B.
  • Once you have achieved an intersection above point R join it to point R.
  • With that, you have constructed a perpendicular line on point R.

NOTE: When making the markings on A and B do not change the size of the compass. The same applies when making the markings above point R.
