GiveN InstructionS :-

  • Draw a line segment PQ = 8cm. Take a point R on it such that l( PR) : l( RQ) = 3.2 also represent the figure.

RequireD ConstructioN :-

[ For construction refer to the attachment : ]

Steps of construction :-

  • Draw a line PQ = 8cm.
  • Draw a ray AX , making a acute angle with PQ .
  • Locate 5 points ( 2+3=5) on PQ , AA1 , A1A2 , A3A4 , A4A5 such that all are equal.
  • Join B to A5.
  • Through the point A3 , draw a line parallel to A5Q ( by making an acute angle to ∠AA5Q ) at A3 intersecting PQ at point C .
  • Hence , PQ : PR = 3:2 .

Quick Verification of construction :-

On measuring PR with scale we see that PR = 4.8cm and QR = 3.2cm.

We have to divide the line in ratio 3:2 . So , let us take the ratio be 3x :2 x .

Now ,

⇒ 3x + 2x = 8cm .

⇒ 5x = 8cm .

⇒ x = 8cm / 5.

⇒ x = 1 . 6 cm .

Hence ,

  • Measure of first part = 3x = 4.8cm.
  • Measure of second part = 2x = 3.2cm

Ratio = 4.8 : 3.2 = 3 : 2
