steps of construction:

first draw a line AB= 9cm

Take a point c such that AC = 3cm

draw an arc on AB taking centre at C mark the arc as xy

taking the same radius of arc xy cut an arc on xy

mark it as point p

from p cut an another arc on xy mark it as q

from point p and q cut two arcs ,from the point of intersection of the two arcs draw a line to c the line is the required line CD
