A stomata is a pore which is established in the upper layer of leaves and other green parts of a plant. Stomatal pore can exchange gas. The pore is bordered by a pair of specialized parenchyma cells called guard cells that regulate the size of the stomatal opening. Air enters the plant by these openings that contains carbon dioxide(CO₂) and oxygen(O₂) used in respiration and photosynthesis. O₂ produced as a photosynthesis by-product diffuses by these same openings into the atmosphere. In transpiration, water(H₂O) vapor diffuses into the atmosphere by the stomata.
