➠ Medulla -

  • It relays nerve impulses between the spinal cord and the brain.
  • Controls autonomic functions.
  • Regulates mood.
  • Coordinates movements of the body.
  • It is the reflex centre for coughing, vomiting, sneezing, swallowing.
  • It is the vasomotor center: baroreceptors.
  • It is the cardiac centres: parasympathetic and sympathetic system.

➠ Cerebellum -

  • It senses equilibrium.
  • Transfers information.
  • Coordinates eye movement.
  • It enables precision control of the voluntary body movements.
  • Predicts the future position of the body during a particular movement.
  • Both anterior and posterior lobes are concerned with the skeletal movements.

➠ Both overproduction and underproduction of growth hormone leads to disorders in the body. This hormone helps in muscle growth, repairing of tissues, healing etc. Overproduction of this hormone leads to a disorder known as gigantism while its underproduction leads to dwarfism.
