Answer:

When a copper wire with a resistive coating is wound in a chains of loop ( like a spring) is called a solenoid.

The magnetic field lines (magnetic lines of force) due to a current - carrying solenoid are similar to those of a bar magnets. One face of a coil acts as a South pole & other as a North pole
