Oxygen is evolved during photosynthesis
Explanation:
- The experimental setup is shown as in the image attached. The beaker has been filled with water and the plant base ( like hydrilla plant) is cut and placed such that the cut ends are towards the neck of the funnel. The set up is placed in daylight.
- After a while, bubbles are seen evolving from plant and get accumulated in the test tube. A glowing splinter of wood is thrust into the test tube and the a flame is seen burning due to reaction of the gas bubbles in the test tube .
- Oxygen has a property of not burning itself but flaming the glowing splinter. Therefore it can be established that the gas is oxygen.
- Two adaptation found in plants to favor the process of photosynthesis are larger surface area of leaves that increase the amount of chlorophyll and hence increase photosynthesis. Also , more stomata on leaves favors photosynthesis.
- In most plants , orientation of leaves is another factor that helps in photosynthesis.
