In the picture we can see the construction of a pair of parallel lines at a distance of 5cm from each other using ruler and compass.

Given that,

We have to construct a pair of parallel lines at a distance of 5cm from each other using ruler and compass.

We know that,

Step 1: Draw a line PQ with the help of scale and pencil.

Step 2: Take any two points A and B on the line.

Step 3: Construct ∠PBF = 90° and  ∠QAE = 90°

Step 4: With A as a center and at radius 5 cm cut AE at C.

Step 5: With B as a center and at radius 5cm cut BF at D.

Step 6: Join CD and produce it on either side to get the required line parallel to AB and at a distance 5cm from it.

Therefore, In the picture we can see the construction.
