Draw a rectangle of length 8 cm and breadth (width) 3 cm. Then cut small squares of side 1 cm and paste inside the rectangle. How many small squares are needed to cover the rectangle completely?

area of rectangle = length*breadth = 8*3 = 24cm²

area of square = side * side = 1*1 = 1cm²

no. of squares needed to cover rectangle =

area of rectangle / area of square

= 24 cm²/1 cm²

= 24 squares
