In human body, gaseous exchange occurs between tissue cells and the capillary blood through intestinal fluid and this is called internal respiration. The exchange occurs due to difference in partial pressure of the gases. Partial pressure is the pressure contributed by an individual gas in a mixture of gases. It is represented as p‎O2 for oxygen and pC‎O2 for carbon dioxide. Gases diffuse from high partial pressure to low partial pressure.
