Double circulation is needed in human beings to prevent the mixing of oxygenated blood with deoxygenated blood.
Humans have high energy needs(for maintaining their body temperature constantly). For this, a highly efficient supply of oxygenated blood in different body parts is required.
*During double circulation, oxygenated blood coming from the lungs enters the heart, passes through the left atrium, left ventricle and moves out of the heart through the aorta to supply all over the body.
*Simultaneously, deoxygenated blood from all over the body enters the right atrium through The Superior and inferior venacava.
It passes through the ventricle and finally out through the pulmonary artery towards the lungs for oxygenation.
This process takes place simultaneously and hence it's called as Double circulation.
