A wavefront is a surface or line that joins all points nearby, taking into consideration only those points which have an identical vibratory phase on the wave. This can be either spherical, cylindrical or plane.

In a plane wavefront, the source is located at a long distance. On the other hand, in the case of a spherical wavefront, the source is a linear source.
