Answer:

1) The dimensions of the triangle are 6 cm, 5 cm and 4 cm.

Steps of construction:

(i) Draw a line segment, say PQ, of length 4 cm.

(ii) Taking P as the center and radius 5 cm, draw an arc with the help of a compass.

(iii) Taking Q as the center and radius 6 cm, draw an arc with the help of a compass.

(iv) Let the two arcs intersect at point R.

(v) Now join PR and QR.

Hence, Δ PQR of dimensions 4 cm, 5 cm and 6 cm is constructed.

2) Constructing isosceles triangle of the same area.

Steps of construction:

(i) Draw a line xy passing through R and parallel to PQ.

{∵ The triangles lying on the same base and between the same parallels are equal in area}

(ii) Draw a perpendicular bisector of PQ.

(iii) Let it intersect line xy at point H.

(iv) Join PH and QH.

{∵ Any point on the perpendicular bisector is equidistant from the end points of the line segment}

Hence, ΔPQH is an isosceles triangle of same area as ΔPQR.
