FLUID AND MOSAIC MODEL:

• Fluid Mosaic model of Plasma Membrane was given by two scientists Singer and Nicolson.

• They said that there is a lipid bilayer which acts as the sea. On the lipid bilayer, floats a number of proteins like icebergs on sea.

• The membrane proteins are of two types: Surface proteins and Integral (Transmembrane) proteins.

• This arrangement of membrane allows quasi-fluid nature of the membrane. It also helps to perform various cell functions like cell division, cellular respiration, etc.
