the process of passing current through water is called eloctrolysis of water or simply hydrolysis.

1. the electrodes are called cathode ( -ve electrode) and anode ( +ve electrode).

2. the gases formed are H2 and O2. H2 is collected in the test tube of cathode and oxygen is collected in the test tube of anode. hydrogen and oxygen are collected in the ratio 2:1.
