Given :  major axes and minor axes as 100 mm and 60 mm

To Find :  draw an ellipse by arc method

Solution:

Step 1 : Draw line segment AB = 100 cm   major axes

Step 2 :    Draw line segment OC = OD  = 30 mm  (60/2 ) ( O is center of AB)

Step 3 :  Using compass width = OA = OB = 50 m and taking C/D as center cut AB  at F1 and F2

Step 4 :  Take 3 points between  F1 and O , marks as 1 , 2 ,

Step 5 : Use compass width = A1  and taking F1 and F2 as center Draw 4 arcs

Step 6 : Use compass width =  1B  and taking F1 and F2 as center Draw 4 arcs such that it intersects arc drawn in previous steps

Repeat above 2 steps for point 2 and 3

Step 7 : Use compass width = A2  and taking F1 and F2 as center Draw 4 arcs

Step 8 : Use compass width =  2B  and taking F1 and F2 as center Draw 4 arcs such that it intersects arc drawn in previous steps

Step 9 : Use compass width = A3  and taking F1 and F2 as center Draw 4 arcs

Step 10 : Use compass width =  3B  and taking F1 and F2 as center Draw 4 arcs such that it intersects arc drawn in previous steps

Step 11 :  Draw French cut or use free hand  to draw smooth curve passing through all these points.
