Derivation:

In series combination,the current across all resistors is same.

Consider 3 resistors connected in series.

We know that:

  V = IR

And in series,voltages are different.

So,

V=V1 + V2+ V3

As V = IR

then : I Req= IR1 + IR2 + IR3

Taking current as common,,then above equation becomes:

Req= R1 + R2 + R3

It can be concluded that:
