The Main Answer is:
- As shown in the figure, there are a total of 5 forces acting on a moving car.
- These are namely, Air resistance
Force due to acceleration (driving force)
Reaction or contact force
Weight of the car
The frictional force of the road.
Explanation:
- When a car accelerates, it is due to the driving force exerted by the engine which makes the car move forward.
- In response to this forward force, the air exerts resistance in the opposite direction due to its property of density.
- The road also exerts friction over the wheels due to irregularities between the surfaces.
- The weight of the car acts downwards, i.e., towards the center of the Earth.
- In response to this weight, the Earth exerts a reaction or contact force on the wheels of the car, which are in direct contact with the road/Earth.
- This reaction force and the weight of the car are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.
