The Main Answer is:

  • As shown in the figure, there are a total of 5 forces acting on a moving car.
  • These are namely, Air resistance

Force due to acceleration (driving force)

                                        Reaction or contact force

                                        Weight of the car

The frictional force of the road.

Explanation:

  1. When a car accelerates, it is due to the driving force exerted by the engine which makes the car move forward.
  2. In response to this forward force, the air exerts resistance in the opposite direction due to its property of density.
  3. The road also exerts friction over the wheels due to irregularities between the surfaces.
  4. The weight of the car acts downwards, i.e., towards the center of the Earth.
  5. In response to this weight, the Earth exerts a reaction or contact force on the wheels of the car, which are in direct contact with the road/Earth.
  6. This reaction force and the weight of the car are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.
