The five symbols are described below:

French Revolution made extensive use of symbols to mobilize and assert the identity of the third estate.

The symbols used are as follows:

1. Broken chain: Chains were used to restrict and restrain the slaves. Thus, the symbol of the broken chain was used to demonstrate the state of freedom (from slavery).

2. Eye in a Triangle: The eye in a triangle radiating light symbolises knowledge. The rays of light overcome the darkness caused by ignorance.

3. Sceptre: it is a symbol of royal authority and power.

4. Snake biting its tail: a ring-like form depicting a snake biting its tail is a symbol of eternity as the ring has no beginning or end.

5. Bundle of rods: represents strength in unity. A single rod can be broken but not a bundle.
