Know More -

In brief (the definitions of few basic terms related to spherical mirror) -

  • Principal Axis - The line that joins the pole and centre of curvature of the spherical mirror.

  • Pole - This is the geometrical central point or the reflecting spherical surface(called aperture). This is denoted by ( P ).

  • Radius of curvature - The separation between the pole and the centre of curvature . [ PC = R ]

  • Focus Point - The point on the principal axis, where all parallel rays meet after reflection. This is denoted by (F).

  • Focal length - The length between the pole and focus point. Denoted by (f).

  • Centre of Curvature - The reflecting surface of a spherical mirror form a part of sphere, which has a center which is known as centre of curvature. This is denoted by (C).
