Steps of construction are as follows :

1. Draw a circle of radius 5 cm. Take a point P on it.

2. Draw any chord PQ and Angle QRP in the alternate segment.

3. With Q as the centre and any convenient radius, draw an arc intersecting the sides RQ and PR.

4. Using the same radius and centre P, draw an arc intersecting chord P.

5. Taking radius equal to earlier drawn arc, draw another arc intersecting the arc drawn in the previous step. Let T be the point of intersection of these arcs. Draw line PT.

PT is the required tangent to the circle.
