The electron dot structure of methane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen molecule, and oxygen molecule are as follows:

  • Methane is formed of 1 Carbon atom (2,4) and 4 Hydrogen (1) atoms. The 4 H atoms share their 1 electron each with C that shares 4 electrons in all.
  • Carbon Dioxide is composed of 1 C atom (2,4) and 2 Oxygen atoms (2,6). 2 double bonds are formed by sharing of electrons between O and C.
  • The nitrogen molecule is composed of two nitrogen molecules ( 2,5 ). The atoms form a triple bond with one another.
  • The oxygen molecule has two oxygen atoms. The atoms are doubly bonded to one another and share electrons to achieve their respective octets.
