Pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood from the lungs. Oxygenated blood enters the left atrium of the heart when the muscles of atria are relaxed. The atria then contracts, while the ventricles relax so that the blood is transferred to the left ventricle. When the muscular ventricles contract, oxygenated blood is poured into the largest artery of the body called, aorta. Thus, oxygen is distributed to all parts of the body.

Large veins called vena cava collect deoxygenated blood from the various parts of the body and pour it into the right atrium, as it relaxes. As the right atrium contracts, the deoxygenated blood is transferred to the right ventricle, which in turns pumps it to the lungs for oxygenation. Pulmonary artery carries blood from heart to the lungs....
