HUMAN LUNGS:

  • These are the respiratory organ of our body.

  • Air from the environment enters the nose, passes through the pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi and subsequently enters the lungs.

  • The lung is covered by a double layered membrane named as PLEURA, the outer layer is the parietal pleura and the inner layer is the visceral pleura. Inbetween the layers lies the pleural cavity filled with pleural fluid.

  • The medial aspect of the lung has an hilar region through which the bronchi enter after bifurcation.

  • The lung parenchyma is filled with acini, alveolar ducts and alveoli. Even the respiratory bronchioles form a part of the parenchyma.

  • The lungs are pink at birth, later turn black due to deposition of carbon particles.

  • Right lung has 3 lobes, while left lung has 2 lobes.
