Given :  seg AB of any length.

To find  : Locate point D on AB such that AD²=3BD²

Solution:

AD²=3BD²

=> AD = √3 DB

=> AD/DB = √3

Step 1 :  Draw a line segment AB of any length

Step 2 :  Draw  a right angle at A  and take length of 1 cm at point X

Step 3 : Taking Point M as center and using compass width = 2 cm , draw an arc intersecting AB at M

AM = √3  (∵ AM²  = XM² - AX² = 2² - 1² = 3 )

Step 4 : Using Compass width = 1 cm Taking M as center take a point further on AB  as N

MN = 1

AM : MN = √3 : 1

Step 5 : Draw an  acute angle at A on AB and draw ray AX

Step 6 : Draw right angles at  AM  & AN  intersecting AX at  P & Q

Step 7 : Join QB

Step 8 : Draw a line parallel to QB passing through P and intersecting AB at D

AD : DB = AM : MN = √3 : 1

=> AD²=3BD²

D is the point on AB such that AD²=3BD²
