Given :

Three resistors are connected in series

  • R₁ = 5Ω
  • R₂ = 8Ω
  • R₃ = 12Ω

potential difference, V = 12V

To find :

the current flowing through the circuit

Solution :

first we have to find the total resistance of the circuit.

The three resistors of 5Ω, 8Ω and 12Ω are connected in series

The combined resistance of any number of resistance connected in series is equal to the sum of the individual resistances. i.e.,

R = R₁ + R₂ + R₃

➠ R = 5 + 8 + 12

➠ R = 25Ω

Now, using ohm's law .i.e.,

At constant temperature, the current flowing through a conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference across its ends. .i.e.,

V = R × I

➠ 6 = 25 × I

➠ I = 6/25

➠ I = 0.24 A

thus, the current flowing through the circuit is 0.24A

Remember !

SI unit of current is ampere (A)
