Answer:

Explanation:

Human brain is main coordinating centre of the body, which enables an organism to think and take decisions.

Functions of different parts of brain are:

Medulla oblongata It controls involuntary actions and regulates reflex responses. It also controls blood pressure, salivation and vomiting.

Cerebellum It controls and coordinates different muscular actions. It is responsible for voluntary actions and maintains equilibrium of the body during walking, drinking, catching, etc.

Forebrain It has following parts:

Cerebrum performs thinking, reasoning, speech, intelligence and usage of information.

Olfactory lobes are responsible for detecting smell from different receptors.

Diencephalon controls body temperature, urge of eating, drinking, etc.

The brain is the controlling centre of all the body activities. It is covered by three connective tissue membrane or meninges :

\textbf{(i)Duramater:}( duara : tough ; mater ; membrane) is the outermost thick fibrous membrane.

\textbf{(ii)Arachnoid membrane:}(arachnoid ; spider) is the middle, thin vascular membrane providing web like cushion

\textbf{(iii)Piamater:}(pia ; soft or tender)is the innermost , thin delicate membrane richly supplied with blood.

Meningeal membranes protect the brain from mechanical injury.

\large\textbf{cerebrum} :

  • It is longitudinally divided into two halves as right and left cerebral hemispheres by a deep cleft called median cleft.
  • Two cerebral hemispheres are interconnected by corpus callosum.
  • Outer grey portion - cerebral cortex.
  • inner white matter cerebral medulla.
  • The cortex is folding forming elevation called gyri wirh depressions called as sulci.
  • Functions of cerebrum are Thinking, intelligence , consciousness, memory, imagination, reasoning and will power.

\large\textbf{Thalamus} :

  • It is present in cerebral medulla.
  • It is a conducting centre for sensory and motor signalling
  • Acts as a relay centre.

\large\textbf{Hypothalamus} :

  • It liesat the base of thalamus.
  • It controls involuntary functions like thirst, hunger ect..,
  • Acts as a thermolegulatory centre.
  • Important link between nervous system and endocrine system.

\large\textbf{Corpora Quadrigemina} :

  • It is located between thalamus and hindbrain.
  • Controls visual and auditory reflexes.

\large\textbf{Cerebellum} :

  • It is second largest part of the brain formed of two large sized hemispheres and middle vermis.
  • Maintenance of posture and balance, Coordinates voluntary muscle activity.

\large\textbf{Pons} :

  • It is a bridge of nerve fibre that connects the lobes of cerebellum.
  • Respiration and Sleep cycle.

\large\textbf{Medulla Oblangata} :

  • It is the posterior most part of the brain that connects spinal cord and various partns of the brain
  • Cardiovascular, respiratory and digestive control centres.
