ELECTROLYSIS OF WATER :
DIAGRAM - Refer the attached picture.
APPARATUS USED :
- Plastic Mug : To carry out the process of electrolysis of water.
- Rubber Stopper : To connect Carbon Electrodes with the anode and cathode part of the battery.
- Carbon Electrode : To carry out the current discharge in water for electrolysis.
- Dilute Sulphuric Acid : For the release of H+ ions easily for electrolysis..
- Two Test tubes : To store the Oxygen and Hydrogen gases realised separately.
- 6 V Battery ( with Switch ) : To discharge electric current in the set up of electrolysis.
- Water : Foundation of Carrying out the process.
HOW TO DO :
⚫Take a plastic mug. Drill two holes at the end. Place the rubber stopper in these holes and insert carbon electrodes in both.
⚫Connect battery with these electrodes.
⚫Fill the plastic mug with water and invert them over the carbon electrodes and Switch on the current.
OBSERVATION / PURPOSE :
➡️ To determine the volume of Hydrogen and Oxygen gases released in the test tubes.
