Solution :

\underline{\boxed{\bf{\red{Electric}\:\purple{Field}\:\green{Lines}\::}}}

▪ The lines of force are imaginary curves, but the field which they represent is real.

▪ The term 'lines of force' is misleading.

▪ It will be more appropriate to call them electric 'field lines'.

▪ A field line is a space curve i.e. a curve in three dimensions.

▪ Direction of electric field due to positive charge is always away from it while due to negative charge always towards it.

▶ Some of the important properties of field lines are :

  • Field lines are clntinuous curves without any breaks.
  • Two field lines cannot cross each other.
  • Electrostatic field lines start at positive charges and end at negative charges.
  • They cannot form closed loops.
