The second row elements of the first group in the periodic table consist of Beryllium, Magnesium, Calcium, Strontium, Barium and Radium.

In all of them, the first column in the periodic table has a single valence electron in its 's' sublevel.

For example, in Beryllium (Be), its atomic number is Z = 4, and henceit has only four protons.

A neutral beryllium can also only have four electrons.

The diagonal rule works on Beryllium (Be).

Therefore, the non-valence electrons is 1s square.
