We have given that an object AB is placed between the centre of curvature (C) and the focus (F) of concave mirror on the principle axis.

  • We know that there are infinite many rays incident to the mirror which passing through the point B of the object. But we shall consider only two incident rays out of infinite rays (as shown in the attached figure below).
  • The first ray (shown as red ray) parallel to the principle axis passes through focus F after the reflection from the mirror at point D.
  • The second ray (shown as blue ray) passes through the focus of mirror, then reflects from the mirror at point E and travels parallel to principle axis.
  • These two reflected rays are convergent rays. They intersect each other in the space beyond the center of curvature (C) of the mirror.

Formation of the image:

  1. The image A'B' is formed beyond the centre of curvature (C) of the mirror.
  2. The size of the image A'B' is larger than the size of the object AB.
  3. The image A'B' is real and inverted.
