Geometric isomers are at least two coordination compound which contain a similar number and types of molecules, and bonds (i.e., the network between atom is the equivalent), however which have distinctive spatial arrangement of the particles.  

These two structures(Trans but-2-ene and cis but-2-ene) contain a similar number and kinds of molecules and bonds yet are non-superimposable. The isomer in which like ligands are nearby each other is known as the cis isomer. The isomer in which like ligands are inverse each other is known as the trans isomer.
