Draw the graph of the equation x/3 + y/4 =1. Also find the area of the triangle formed by the line and the coordinates axes.

Steps of construction:

Given equation: x/3 + y/4 =1

put y = 0, to find the coordinate of x

x/3 + (0)/4 =1

x/3 = 1

x = 3

put x = 0, to find the coordinate of y

(0)/3 + y/4 =1

y/4 = 1

y = 4

Now, join these above points.

Hence the required graph of the equation x/3 + y/4 =1.

The area of triangle formed by the line and the coordinates axes is given by,

The type of  triangle obtained is a right angles triangle.

Area = ab / 2

From figure: a = 3, b = 4

Area = (3 × 4) / 2 = 12 / 2 = 6

∴ Area = 6 sq, units.
