In order to draw the graph first consider some real value of x . Then put them in the given equation .

For ex : If x = 1 , then y = 3(1) + 1 = 4 .

Now , make a small table :-

+---------+---------+---------+

|      x     |     1     |    0     |

--------------------------------+

|       y    |     4    |      1     |

+---------+---------+----------+

Now after getting some values of x and y plot them in graph .

And join the points and also extend the line till your graph paper.

ZERO OF y = 3x + 1 :    1

The point at which the graph intersects the y axis is called the zero.

From image you can observe that the graph intersects the y-axis at only one point.

Hence , we can say that following linear equation has only 1 zero .
