Germination of pollen on stigma ,seed germination ,structure of seed
Explanation:
Germination of pollen on stigma
Pollen grain containing 2 male nuclei and a tube cell is in mature form .When this mature pollen falls on the stigma of a ovary , it absorbs certain nutrients .
As a result , its exine ruptures and intine protrudes to form pollen tube . This pollen tube then grows day by day and enters embryo sac through micropyle .
On doing so , it releases the male nuclei in it .These male nuclei combine with egg cell and polar nuclei to form zygote that latter forms embryo .
Seed germination
The embryo formed transforms into seed .
Seed first take up water , swells up and as a result seed coat ruptures and radicle and plumule emerges out . This under favorable condition forms seedling and then a mature plant .
Structure of seed
The seed has :
- Embryo
- Endosperm
- Seed-coat
The seed-coat develops from the maternal, ovular tissues.
